37.046 Red-clover Case-bearer (Coleophora deauratella ), a female, at Tag meadow, Cromwell Bottom, July 2nd 2017. A field observation among Birdsfoot Trefoil. The sunlight has brought out the metallic colouring on the wings.

37.048 Meadow Case-bearer (Coleophora mayrella) at Brearley meadows below Midgley on June 2nd 2022. Swept from vegetation consisting mainly of grasses and buttercups with small amounts of Red Clover in among. It has distinctive ringed antennae with the basal two fifths scaled.

It was very satisfying to make a reasonable gen. prep. to facilitate the identification, see below.

37.071 Grey Rush Case-bearer (Coleophora glaucicolella) and Common Rush Case-bearer (Coleophora alticolella) cases on a rush species at Milner Royd drain on Feb. 13th 09.  Larvae were identified from a sample of 11 cases collected from this site and C.alticolella was much the more common species present with just one larva of C.glaucicolella. Also some cases were empty or parasitised.

37.073 Common Rush Case-bearer (Coleophora alticolella)case on a rush species at Copley meadow on Feb. 24th 2016. The cases were still quite easy to find despite the host plants being on the flood plain that was severely affected by the devastating Boxing Day floods a couple of months earlier.

37.083 Orache Case-bearer (Coleophora saxicolella), one of two males to MV light at Sarah Flood's place at Luddenden Dean on June 27th 2023. Gen. det. (CS).
Members of this family can often be relied on to add a bit of "rarity" value to a night's catch.

37.093 Pale Thistle Case-bearer (Coleophora peribenanderi), a male to light at Cromwell Bottom on June 11th 2023. Gen. det (CS).

37.102 Yarrow Case-bearer (Coleophora argentulacase and larva on a Yarrow seedhead, Hollas Lane nature reserve, Sept. 2nd 2017. After taking the case home for further study I was surprised to find it was tenanted and actively feeding on the Yarrow seeds.

This belongs to the Coleophora "group" with longitudinal and oblique streaks with a scattering of darker scales.
